Fear The Walking Dead looks a lot different this season and at the NYCC the cast and showrunners promised that there are some dark and exciting things coming in season 6.

Even though the usual cons we love have looked a little different this year, fans still got to watch some of the cast and the showrunners from their favorite The Walking Dead universe shows answer some fan questions at this year’s virtual New York Comic Con and give some sneak peeks at what’s ahead for the shows.

Fear The Walking Dead luckily had half of season 6 filmed when everything had to shut down so the first half of the season will air in the Sunday at 9 P.M. EST time slot that The Walking Dead is usually occupying at this time of year.

Fear The Walking Dead started its sixth season on Sunday and at the NYCC panel for the show on Saturday Alycia Debnam-Carey, Colman Domino, Danay Garcia, Lennie James along with showrunners Ian Goldberg and Andrew Chambliss talked about the new format for the show as well as the changes in season 6 that will make this season so different from the seasons before.

The panels for NYCC were fairly short and included a preview of the season ahead. Here are four of the biggest highlights from the Fear The Walking Dead NYCC panel.

1. Skidmark could get his own episode

Of course, the most important issue that came up was Daniel’s beloved walker killing companion Skidmark and what the future holds for him. Scott Gimple said that it’s possible in the upcoming spinoff Tales of The Walking Dead that there could be an animated episode featuring Skidmark.

It’s also possible that Skidmark and another animal, perhaps Dog from TWD, could be featured in an episode also. The Walking Dead show worlds are always converging in new and exciting ways so don’t count Skidmark out yet. Fingers crossed because Gimple – we’re not kidding. If Skidmark or Dog dies, theTWD Family will riot.

2. Fear TWD is not on the same timeline as the other shows

Those of you have been trying to keep track of the timeline in The Walking Dead universe probably already figured out that the Fear crew is behind The Walking Dead and The Walking Dead: World Beyond.

But it was confirmed by Gimple that the Fear timeline is actually quite far behind the other two shows and operating at a different pace. Both TWD and TWDWB are on the same timeline and are occurring at almost exactly the same time, although TWDWB is slightly behind the mothership show.

3. The characters you know will be different this season

The showrunners and the cast talked about some of the subtle changes that the characters will be going through this season. If you saw the Fear premiere “The End Is The Beginning” you already saw some significant changes in Morgan. The other characters are going to be going through changes as well.

The OG characters like Strand, Alicia, and Daniel will be hearkening back to the beginning and we will see some of the qualities in them we haven’t seen in a while which should please the fans who felt that those characters lost their edge as the seasons went by. Living under Virginia’s rule will force them to reexamine who they have become and make them decide who they want to be now.

4. Love is in the air

It won’t be all strife on Fear TWD this season. Some of the characters who have been alone throughout the apocalypse will find love this season. Although this is love in the apocalypse, so happy endings are rare and never guaranteed. Will John and June be reunited? Will they be happy if they are? What about Grace and Morgan?

And there’s already been hints that Sherry and Dwight will have to relearn how to make their relationship work after they get to know each other again after being apart for so long. The apocalypse changes people, and so does being held captive by Virginia. It remains to be seen what love will really look like in the Fear The Walking Dead world.
