Longtime Harry Potter fan Pete Davidson made sure to bring up how absurd J.K. Rowling’s transphobic stance is on Saturday Night Live this weekend and it’s what every Potter fan should be doing.

Pete Davidson is a Harry Potter fan. Like…a BIG fan of the series. And so when he took to the Saturday Night Live stage this weekend to call out J.K. Rowling for her transphobic tweets and blog post. Which, honestly, is what we all should be doing as fans of the Harry Potter series.

On Weekend Update, Davidson points out the absurdity of Rowling creating a world filled with magical creatures and people working together and that she cannot seem to understand that gender identity is not a binary thing.

And, as fans, that’s what should be happening whenever we’re talking about Rowling and the series in general. It’s not something we can brush off or talk around. J.K. Rowling has been constantly harmful in her stance on Twitter and there are people who either don’t know that she’s said these things or do not realize how dangerous her words are.

So Pete Davidson calling her out on Saturday Night Live is a pretty big deal. Especially because he is such a huge fan. It isn’t just someone pointing out that it is wrong, it’s coming from someone who loves the world and recognizes how harmful Rowling’s tweets and blog post and upcoming book all are to the trans community.

So, maybe we all need to be a bit more like Pete Davidson and call out J.K. Rowling when we can.

Good job, Pete Davidson! This is what we should be doing as fans of the series. Be kind to one another.
