J.K Rowling is giving her royalties of the proceeds of The Ickabog to help in COVID relief but you can donate the money you would have spent on the book to charity yourself!

In a move of good faith, J.K. Rowling has decided to donate her portions of the royalties for The Ickabog to charities helping families hurt by the virus. And while that is good on her part, it is still supporting Rowling despite her transphobic remarks over and over again. So instead, fans who want to support the trans community should donate what they would have spent on the book to organizations that help families.

The news was announced on Rowling’s Twitter account today and includes artwork from young fans that Rowling has shared on her account.

One user did make a good point about the artwork as well, wanting to know if the families of the kids were going to get a notice or receive anything for the artwork being used but since it is for charity, it might have a different set of requirements.

Still, unfortunately, supporting this book does support Rowling and by extension her views so if you were going to spend money on this book and no longer want to, you can easily donate to the charities willing to help families out right now! To be honest, it’s better to donate what you can to those places directly anyway.

It truly is sad that it has come to this but supporting charities on our own and making sure that Rowling does not get support right now is key and it would be nice to help families hit the hardest by COVID-19.

Remember to be kind to each other and help each other out if you can!
