John Cleese, who played Nearly Headless Nick, went on to defend J.K. Rowling and her transphobic stance once again and it’s incredibly frustrating for a number of reasons.

There have been a great number of J.K. Rowling defenders who keep trying to support her even though she is unapologetic in her transphobic stance and who it hurts and now, John Cleese is joining the party to rally behind Rowling.

Now, here’s the thing, it’s not that Rowling needs supporters. She doesn’t. It’s that now all the people who try and stand behind her have ruined themselves for their fans. J.K. Rowling has missed the point over and over again. Each new time she starts talking about the “issues” with her stance on the trans community, she misses the point of why so many are upset with her. She’s not listening and she doesn’t care who she hurts in the process.

So celebrities standing with Rowling as if she is somehow the one being hurt? It’s insulting on a number of levels. But the idea that Rowling is being “silenced” when she’s hurting an entire community of people just because of her warped stance, that isn’t fair to the trans community.

It then, in turn, makes people like John Cleese and Eddie Redmayne frustrating because they’re both missing the point in why so many are angry with her. No one is trying to “silence” J.K. Rowling. People are pointing out why her transphobic tweets and blog posts are dangerous and she doesn’t want to listen. So the anger we all have towards her? It’s warranted right now and rallying behind her just makes your reputation tarnished in the eyes of so many.
