Xbox Live Gold members have four brand new games to help them pass the hours before the Xbox Series X’s release in November. Check them out!

For games, October may be the longest month to have to wait for both the Xbox Series X and the PlayStation 5’s releases. But that’s okay! Because if you’re a Live Gold member, you have four new offerings to help get you to November 10.

Below are the offerings for October,  the systems they’re on, and the dates they’re available to download:

  • Slayaway Camp: Butcher’s Cut, October 1-31 on Xbox One
  • Maid of Sker, October 16 – November 15 on Xbox One
  • Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy, October 1-15 on Xbox 360 and Xbox One
  • Costume Quest, October 16-31 on Xbox 360 and Xbox One

Here’s the official announcement trailer from Microsoft:

Well, there’s an obvious theme for the month of October, so let’s dive right in!

Slayaway Camp: Butcher’s Cut is first up in this month’s offerings. It’s a puzzle game with over 300 puzzles to play. You play as Skullface, whose goal is to terrorize camp counselors and anyone else he comes across. If you’re a fan of old-school horror movies, this one will really resonate with you. And if you’re someone who wants to play themed games for October, this fits, too.

Next is Maid of Sker. A first-person survival horror game, it has very mixed reviews. The story isn’t anything to write home about, it goes exactly where you’d expect, and there are plenty of audio issues to contend with. One cool thing it does do is tie audio logs to save points so that you don’t miss any intriguing story details. This game is definitely a Resident Evil lite, but not necessarily in a good way.

For the 360 games this month, we have Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy, an action-adventure game in the same vein as The Legend of Zelda. You get fun combat and plenty of puzzles to solve, all in a package from the early 2000s. Yes, it’s very dated, but if you can look past that, it’s still a fun time.

Lastly, we have Costume Quest, a fun turn-based RPG from Double Fine. It’s Halloween night and you’re out trick or treating with your twin, who then gets kidnapped by a monster. Your goal is to knock on every last door to gather new items for your outfit, and then get other kids to help you take on the monster and rescue your sibling. It’s definitely not anything super fancy, but it may be the closest we get to true trick or treating this year.
