PlayStation Plus members have two new games in October to play in anticipation of the PlayStation 5’s release in November

We only have about six weeks until the PlayStation 5’s release on November 12th. The problem is that we still have about six weeks to wait.

Which is okay, because PlayStation Plus members have their two new games for October waiting on the horizon.

Here are your two free games for the month of October:

  • Need for Speed: Payback
  • Vampyr

Watch the official announcement trailer from Sony here:

Honestly, these offerings are relatively average, especially for the track record Sony has had in offerings the last few months. But not every month can be a winner.

First up is Need For Speed: Payback. It’s not necessarily a faithful driving simulation, but it is mind-numbing! Play as one of three distinct characters looking for vengeance against a cartel that runs the city’s casinos, criminals, and cops. It’s a hackneyed plot for sure. And the customization of the game is great! …Except you have to pay for it. Not necessarily with actual cash, but in-game currency that takes forever to accumulate.

Anyway, if you’re looking for a mindless racer game with an over-the-top cliched plot, Need For Speed: Payback is it.

Next up is Vampyr. It’s a third-person RPG set in London during the height of the Spanish Flu epidemic. The world and plot are incredibly well-built and fleshed out. Honestly, at times it can be almost over-the-top but in a way that works to the game’s benefit.

Now, this may hit a little close to home given the current standings of the world. But honestly, if I watched my husband play Resident Evil 2 and 3 Remakes at the height of COVID back in March/April, you can most likely handle Vampyr.

The combat of the game isn’t the greatest or the fanciest either. And sometimes it’s obvious that the game is leading you down a particular path, which can feel more annoying than helpful. Still, it’s a slightly better option than your other choice this month. And it’ll help kill more time until we get the PS5.

Here’s what has us most excited from the PlayStation 5 announcement. light. Related Story

Both games will be available to download for PlayStation Plus members starting October 6th.
