Every month, we’re going to look at organizations that Harry Potter fans can donate to that help the trans community, and this month, we’re focusing on Black Trans organizations!

Being a fan of the Harry Potter series now means that we have to use our voice to help the trans community. Now, more than ever, it is important for us, as fans, to support the community that J.K. Rowling has seen fit to attack over and over again online. So, this month, we’re going to focus on organizations that help Black trans people!

The Okra Project is a wonderful organization that helps bring homecooked, healthy, and culturally-specific food to the Black trans community wherever the project can reach to. Offering at a minimum $80 in aid to those who apply, the project is an incredible way to help the Black trans community!

There is also the Black Visions Collective which helps to provide community support to stop the system of violence that often is directed at queer and trans communities. Their mission statement is simple:

"“As an organization dedicated to Black liberation and to collective liberation, we need a radical and ongoing investment in our own healing. By claiming love for our own bodies, our own psyches, our own experiences, and by building the resources we need to integrate healing justice into all that we do, we are insisting on conditions that can carry us towards the next generation of work, and towards a deeper place of freedom for all of us.”"

Both of these organizations (as well as others that Elle has so graciously collected) are wonderful places to look to start reoccurring donations. Or maybe you want to donate to a multitude of places and try to help the trans community as much as possible! Whatever you chose, please help if you can and look out for those in the trans community right now and always.

Next. Why is the Harry Potter series filled with men that we shouldn’t forgive?. dark

Be kind to one another and if you can donate to help Black trans people, please do!
