The Return of Familiar Faces

The final season of a long-running series is usually packed full of nostalgia — a look back at all of the characters who helped make the show what it is while it takes its victory lap. Supergirl should be no exception. While the core characters of the show have mostly remained the same since season two, there were several departures of supporting characters who had a huge impact on the series with openings to return to the show someday.

James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks) and Winn Schott (Jeremy Jordan) were part of the original cast and were integral in helping Kara accept her heroic identity as Supergirl. Brooks departed the show to pursue a film career, while Jordan left to work on Broadway. Both James and Winn had open-ended exits from the show, so both could return in some capacity. Winn, especially, as he was last seen traveling to the future with Mon-El (Chris Wood) and Imra (Amy Jackson).

The show is also known for its strong supporting female characters, such as Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart) and Sam Arias (Odette Annable), both of whom would be welcome sights during the final season of Supergirl. Flockhart was part of the original cast as well, acting as a mentor for Kara during her time as head honcho of CatCo Media. Sam, who had close friendships with Alex and Lena, made a brief return for the 100th episode, but it would still be nice to see her return to the series. Perhaps an Alex and Kelly wedding could bring everyone back together?
