A Reckoning for Lena

Let’s call the Lex situation what it was: abuse. He manipulated and belittled Lena into doing his bidding, taking full advantage of the rift between her and Kara. So, even while dealing with betrayal at the hands of her best friend, she also has to cope with the realization that she, yet again, was being used by her brother. Lena herself has been through a lot on the show, and McGrath has been putting in an exceptional performance every step of the way. But it’s really time for Lena to acknowledge how messed up her life had become at the end of season five, deal with it, and move on.

Kara and Lena seemed to be on the way toward mending fences at the end of season five, but they still need to have more conversations about what happened between them. Maybe have Kara finally share her journals with Lena, so Lena would know for sure that Kara didn’t enjoy lying to her and genuinely was trying to keep her safe. She also needs to come to terms with what she did to Eve Teschmacher (Andrea Brooks).

McGrath is a treasure, and The CW would do well to keep her in the Arrowverse in some capacity. Perhaps relocating her to Gotham City at the end of the show to get a fresh start? We’ve already seen onscreen evidence that she has been there to conduct business. Maybe she could be of assistance in the search for the missing Kate Kane in Batwoman‘s next season? Either way, Lena, if no one else on the show, deserves a happy ending.
