Let’s talk about all the things you don’t know about the Harry Potter series

The Harry Potter series is sort of divided between those who read the books and those who only saw the movies so let’s talk a bit about what you’re missing either way.

When it comes to the Harry Potter series, you have fans who love the books, fans who love the movies, and fans who love both. As someone who loves both, we have a luxury that the other two teams don’t: We know what each has to offer.

So for fans of just the movies, you probably don’t know about Peeves or S.P.E.W. or Hagrid’s backstory and so many other things that the books got to explore more in-depth than the movies did. But if you’re a book purist, you miss the fun moments in The Prisoner of Azkaban that were added to the movie and were not in the book or the little moments that Daniel Radcliffe added to Harry.

Basically, if you focus all your energy on one but not the other, you miss so many great little aspects of the series. Shouldn’t we just kind of embrace things anymore instead of fighting about it?

But there are those who don’t want to explore anything past the part of a franchise they like and that’s maybe why we end up with fandom fighting and people trying to gatekeep. Instead, just know there are things you’re missing either way and maybe that’s okay. Because it isn’t just about what you know, it’s what these kind of properties do for us all.

So, you don’t know that Peeves exists? That’s fine. If you want, look him up! Otherwise, do whatever you want to with the series. It’s okay.
