How Harry Potter inspired an entire generation to stand up to people like J.K. Rowling

The Harry Potter series taught so many of us to stand up for what we believe in and prepare to take on the evils of the world in our own way. Unfortunately, that’s working against J.K. Rowling.

Growing up reading the Harry Potter series, so many of us looked to the evils of our own world and wanted to fight against the injustices they rallied behind. We wanted to stand up for what was right and those who needed our help and our collective voices. Rowling, unfortunately, created her own monster.

We are a generation of compassionate people. Reading the words and tales of Harry Potter taught us that we all have greatness within us and the ability to do the right thing to help our fellow people. The problem now for J.K. Rowling is that she wants to share her transphobic views and the generation that was inspired by her work will not let it stand.

So, yeah, the series is tainted now because we know the feelings and nature of the woman behind it. But it also shows the power that a small bit of activism can do to inspire and entire generation. We watched as Harry and his friends fought against what they saw as wrong and now we’re doing the same thing as fans.

The world doesn’t need more transphobic rhetoric, it doesn’t need more hatred. What the world needs are people willing to stand up for each other and be supportive and that’s what we need to do as fans of this series. So, make sure to donate to trans organizations when you can and support the LGBTQ+ community!
