Just in time for spooky season, teen queen Meg Cabot confirmed her Mediator series being adapted into a movie at Netflix.

Meg Cabot is one of the most prolific and successful young adult authors of all time, the millennial generation’s Judy Blume. Cabot is most likely best known for her popular series The Princess Diaries, adapted into two films by Disney starring Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews.

However, Cabot has written nearly 100 books, with many others receiving adaptations as well. From 2003 to 2006, Lifetime aired the series1-800-Missing based on Cabot’s Missing You series about a telepathic teen. Additionally, Disney adapted Cabot’s Avalon High (a twist on the Arthurian legend) into a Disney Channel Original Movie in 2010.

While beloved, none of these adaptations have quite captured the magic of Cabot’s books (though Avalon High probably came the closest to staying true to Cabot’s original story). The Princess Diaries, in particular, was a huge deviation from the series that fans of the books are still bitter about.

That said, Cabot fans should rejoice with the news that Cabot’s Mediator series is heading to Netflix as a movie. The Mediator series follows Susannah “Suze” Simon, a teenager who can see and speak to the dead. Suze tries to keep her abilities under the radar, but a sexy ghost, Jesse, who haunts her bedroom, makes it difficult.

With news of a new adaptation of another beloved Cabot series, fans are likely anxious about how Netflix will handle the Mediator series, but Queen Meg herself made the announcement in a reassuring tweet.

On Cabot’s website, she has previously stated that, despite much interest, she has declined previous offers to option the Mediator series as it “…contains such a delicate mix of romance, horror, humor, and mystery, (and is also beloved by fans worldwide)…”

Fans should take heart, then, in Cabot’s choice. Netflix has helmed many successful young adult film adaptations and teen comedies in the last few years, including To All the Boys I Loved Before and Dumplin’. The Mediator series will slot perfectly into their lineup of teen romances and coming-of-age stories.

Sarah Spillane is set to write and direct (Around the Block) with Debra Martin Chase (The Princess DiariesThe Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants) producing. The announcement also hints at a franchise, so assuming the first Mediator film is as successful as Netflix’s other young adult book adaptations, there will be lots of Meg Cabot on our screens to come.

Until then, we’ll tide ourselves over by re-reading our favorite Cabot books.
