There are some romance books that are unlike anything you’ve read before. One of those is easily Raiders of the Lost Heart by Jo Segura.

If the title wasn’t enough to give it away, this book is inspired by Raiders of the Lost Ark and Harrison Ford in general. There’s no way I wasn’t going to be excited about picking it up.

While it can sometimes be difficult to manage expectations, Raiders of the Lost Heart had everything going for it. From a unique premise, a cute cover, and lots of adventures, it was truly one book I knew I wanted to read as soon as I heard the pitch.

I’d like to thank Berkley for sending me a finished copy of Raiders of the Lost Heart so I could share my thoughts and feelings with you.

Raiders of the Lost Heart is an adventurous and surprisingly emotional romance.

The story begins as a dream for archaeologist Dr. Corrie Mejia is finally coming true but as with most dreams, it comes with strings. She’s going on an all-expenses paid expedition to find the remains of her long-lost ancestors. Once she gets there, the nightmare truly begins.

Not only is a crew already there, but it’s been led by her nemesis, Dr. Ford Matthews. From the jump, it’s clear the attraction between these two is sizzling. They try to steer clear of each other but keep being drawn together like magnets as they’re dealing with a lot more than they originally imagined.

Raiders of the Lost Heart is a romance through and through but I’d also classify it as an action-adventure story, too. Ford and Corrie end up having to work together to defeat thieves, the government, and even, an investor who is inserting himself into everything. It’s truly them having to work together to survive as Corrie saves Ford’s life more than once.

On paper, this was a book I was bound to love but it ended up not being my favorite which I’m sad about. Aside from that, I’m going to be picking up Jo Segura’s next book as I think this story was so much fun. Even though it didn’t work for me, I do think she can come up with a great concept so I’m excited to see what she does next.

Despite the book not working for me, Raiders of the Lost Heart did feature a great romance, fun characters, and lots of sexy moments. The thing that surprised me was how much emotion was featured within the story as Ford is dealing with an ailing mother while Corrie is reeling over a certain discovery. Plus it’s following two rival archaeologists which I don’t think I’ve ever read before in a book. I’m sure this book will be a smash-hit for many romance readers so I do recommend it if the book sounds good to you.

Raiders of the Lost Heart by Jo Segura is out now where your favorite books are sold.
