Ranking every Star Trek series from the worst to the greatest
7. Star Trek: Picard
This is the first ranking on our list that may have some of you up in arms. Before you come for us with bat’leth, let us explain ourselves. Of course, there’s a lot to love about Star Trek: Picard. The cast, first and foremost, is one of the strongest things Picard has going for it. Much of what makes the show great can be attributed to Patrick Stewart, who reprises his role as the iconic captain Jean-Luc Picard. Although many fans complained about the characterization of Picard in the new series, nobody can deny that Stewart’s performance is nothing short of stellar.
He slips effortlessly back into the role he left 30 years ago, and seeing him reunite with other fan favorites like Riker, Troi, and Data is a sheer delight for fans of The Next Generation. However, beyond the cast, that’s where we began to struggle with Picard. We were never completely sold on the Soji twin plot, nor did we come to care about Rafi, Agnes, or Narek. Santiago Cabrera’s Cristobal Rios is a bright point in the series, but on the whole, the plot was confused and messy, as well as far too rooted in science-fiction as opposed to philosophy, the meat and potatoes of The Next Generation.
While we can’t say that we won’t tune in for season two, we just didn’t love Picard enough to rank it above any of the other remaining shows in the Trek canon.
