Stephen King’s The Stand is being adapted for CBS All Access, and its first trailer is eerily similar to the society we find ourselves living in right now.

What better thing to watch right now than a television show about both a pandemic and a battle between good and evil? And no, I’m not talking about the news!

Stephen King’s The Stand novel is being made into a series for CBS All Access. This post-apocalyptic fantasy tells the story of a weaponized strain of the flu called Captain Trips that almost kills the entire population. (Okay, so thankfully it’s not that similar.) The survivors that are left on Earth unite in two different groups — one representing light, led by Mother Abagail, and the other representing dark, led by Randall Flagg.

What happens next? You’ll just have to wait until the CBS All Access show premieres! (Or, you know, read the book.)

Here’s a look at what we can expect from the show:

The trailer is an absolute delight to watch, giving us short glimpses of what’s to come in December, as well as offering a taste of the impressive lineup of stars involved (Whoopi Goldberg, Alexander Skarsgård, James Marsden, Odessa Young, Jovan Adepo, and many more).

More from TV

Per TVLine, King recently released a statement claiming his excitement for yet another one of his novels coming to the big screen: The people involved are men and women who know exactly what they’re doing; the scripts are dynamite. The result bids to be something memorable and thrilling. I believe it will take viewers away to a world they hope will never happen.”

The limited series will take place over 10 episodes, with King himself writing the final episode’s script with his son. But don’t worry, Stephen King lovers: The ending is said to be completely different than what happens in the book (as it is with all good movie and television adaptations).

dark. Next. Star Trek: Discovery season 1 to air on CBS before season 3

The Stand is set to premiere December 17 on CBS All Access. What do you think of the trailer?
