The evolution of Draco Malfoy as a character is interesting
Draco Malfoy is the kind of character that went from villain to someone we felt bad for and now is one we look back on fondly and let’s take a deeper dive into him as a character.
When we first meet Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter series, he is already trying to get Harry Potter away from his friends and is making it incredibly difficult for Harry right from the start. But he is also a great character to look at in terms of redemption arcs.
More often than not, terrible people get redemption arcs in our pop culture because we like the most “complicated” characters. But Draco’s is a bit more interesting because he is just a kid when we met him and is a product of his family and their own beliefs.
He often talks about his father because somewhere deep down, he’s afraid of what his father will think of him and what he’s doing while he’s at Hogwarts. There is always a mindset with Draco of him trying to make his parents proud despite them using their son to do the bidding of Lord Voldemort and watching him struggle with that throughout the series is incredibly interesting.
Even by Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, he’s still growing and learning and trying to be a better father to his son than his parents were to him and he’s not perfect but he’s at least trying. And that’s why Draco Malfoy is an incredibly interesting character still to this day and will be one we keep looking back to even years later.
