Leslie Knope is a great fictional example of what a Harry Potter fan is like
When it comes to fictional characters who love the Harry Potter series, the list is growing but Leslie Knope is one that encapsulates what a lot of us are like now that we’re adults.
Leslie Knope often drops little nods to the Harry Potter series on Parks and Recreation. Whether it is calling the Chamber of Commerce the “Chamber of Secrets” or saying that Voldemort is probably from Eagleton, there are constant little reminders that she is a fan of the series.
So why does that work for fans now? Probably because that’s kind of how we all talk about the series now that we’re older. As kids, we probably wore all our Harry Potter merch and constantly liked to talk about aspects of the series.
But now, as adults, we’re more into smaller references back to the Harry Potter series. Just casually bringing up Hermione Granger or talking about being a Gryffindor, it’s just part of our nature now as fans. So seeing Leslie Knope kind of doing the same thing? It is a great example of how many of us are as fans now.
Often, when people talk about fans of “nerdy” things in film and television, they rarely are accurate depictions of fans but Parks and Recreation does a great job of nailing what it is like to be a nerd. From Leslie Knope to Ben Wyatt, they show covers plenty of nerd properties but it is Leslie and her love of Harry Potter that really hits home with how many of us, as fans, are now.
