The sci-fi and fantasy genre is one that brings many of us in and delights us to watch and so let’s take a look at the Harry Potter series and how it fits into that world.

Sci-Fi and fantasy have some wonderful fans and the Harry Potter series works to bring more into the genre as a whole.  For so many fans, their first venture into the world of fantasy was through Harry Potter. They were joining the world of magic and mystery and it was a fun entry into this nerdy world that so many of us now love.

But where does the series fit into the grand scheme of fantasy properties? Well, it’s newer so it isn’t as regarded as something like Star Trek or Star Wars. But it’s still important enough that we often talk about the series as a whole when talking about the idea of how our favorite aspects of fandom are a part of the greater cultural zeitgeist.

It’s also what’s great about the genre in general. It gives fans so much to talk about and connect back to. Normally, we can read something or watch a property and get its message and move on from it. But with sci-fi and fantasy properties, we connect back to these franchises because they are fun to talk about but also because those themes present in them are relevant to the world at large as well.

So, where does the Harry Potter series fit in the genre? It fits wherever we need it to and it’s going to continue to grow.
