Star Trek: Short Treks now available to stream for free online

CBS All Access has made its Star Trek mini-episodes known as Short Treks free to stream for non-members.

Have you ever wondered what Spock was like before he became Kirk’s Number One? Well, that’s what the Star Trek: Short Treks segment ‘Q&A’ explains: What our favorite half-Vulcan was like when he first boarded the USS Enterprise as an Ensign. Or perhaps you’re curious who Queen Po was in Star Trek Discovery. Well, there’s the perfect opportunity to dive into these smaller stories now that these mini-episodes are now all free to stream on CBS All Access.

The Short Treks stories started in 2018 and dive into aspects of the Star Trek universe that there not able to be fit into any of the currently airing series: Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Picard, and the new animated sitcom, Star Trek: Lower Decks. However, it is not mandatory to watch these shorts in order to for the overall for the Star Trek experience to make sense. They just add a bit more detail, much like you don’t have to read a slew of Star Wars books for the Skywalker Saga to make sense.

Short Treks is an anthology series with a load of heart ad has something for everyone and is executive produced by Alex Kurtzman, and Bryan Fuller, the two guys responsible for resurrecting the franchise for television.

Short Treks make reference to characters and other events within the main timeline. The six newest episodes are free to stream on CBS.com, Youtube, and the CBS mobile app. The shorts will able available for free until August 31 as a way of celebrating the series being nominated for the Outstanding Short Form Comedy or Drama Emmy.

Episodes include, ‘Q&A’, ‘Ephraim and Dot’, ‘The Trouble with Edward’, ‘The Girl who made the Stars’, ‘Children of Mars’ and ‘Ask Not’.

What makes these shorts so special is that they are condensed down into 10- to 15-minute episodes, so it gets to the point of being solo stories without the need to be tied to an existing episode.
