He was there for so many of us growing up, he saved the entire wizarding world, and today, we honor Harry Potter on his 40th birthday because we love him. Happy birthday, Harry.

The Harry Potter series has been connected back to July 31st for one very important reason: It’s Harry’s birthday! And when looking back on this day, there is always one moment in particular that speaks out to fans and that’s when Hagrid brings Harry his cake.

Harry Potter never really had the best birthday but when Hagrid finally gave him a cake and his letter despite the Dursleys trying to keep him as far away from Hogwarts as possible, it meant a lot for us to see as fans.

For the first time, Harry was happy and even though it was in the beginning of the series, we knew that this was already his best birthday because Hagrid actually cared. Harry rarely had anyone care and then, years later, would find those who gave him the time of day on his birthday.

But that first birthday with Hagrid, when Harry learned that he was more than just a burden to his aunt and uncle? When he learned that he was going to be a part of something bigger than he could have ever thought.

That’s why, in a lot of ways, the birthday cake is so memorable. Sure, Hagrid spelled some things wrong and sat on it but it’s the thought that counts the most. Harry was given something special just for him for his birthday and he got to finally have something that was magical for him. So, happy birthday Harry.
