Let’s give the Harry Potter series the George Lucas treatment and give it to someone else

George Lucas sold the Star Wars franchise and it was a great move for fans and maybe that’s what needs to happen with the Harry Potter series now to separate it from J.K. Rowling.

When the Star Wars franchise got sold to Disney, fans were warry but now we have things like The Mandalorian and plenty of properties away from George Lucas to know and love and maybe that’s what the Harry Potter series needs. Right now, the series is tainted with Rowling’s transphobic statements and fans are now forced into this choice: Forget something they grew up loving or continue to support something tied to someone like Rowling.

But, with a move like Disney did with Star Wars, the property can be given to other creatives and explore in a new way. Basically…let someone else tell Harry’s story for once. So far, we’ve had Rowling’s hand in everything to do with Harry and yes, she created the world but now I think the world has progressed past her.

So, giving the Harry Potter series the George Lucas treatment is something that could give the series back to fans and not completely change what we already had with it. Look at the sequel trilogy and The Mandalorian. It gave an entirely new generation a Star Wars to look at and love.

Giving that same new life to the Harry Potter series could keep it alive and give it to creatives (hopefully creatives from the LGBTQIA+ community) would be a great step in making the Harry Potter series something we can all be proud of once more.
