Why sorting people into their Hogwarts Houses isn’t a perfect science
Hogwarts houses are not exactly perfect when labeling who is in what house and when we’re sorting people into them, it can be a bit complicated about how we do so.
From Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, or Slytherin to setting our entire mindsets around it, there is so much in the world of Harry Potter and our Hogwarts Houses that we still connect back to. But placing someone in a house isn’t a perfect science.
The problem with our Hogwarts houses is that, in a lot of ways, it is the house we feel we’d fit in the best. So when you look at someone else and connect to where they’d go, it can almost diminish the point of Hogwarts Houses in the first place.
Look, as a Gryffindor, I’ll say that we actively choose to be in Gryffindor because we’re brave. Ravenclaws are probably the same way but they do so because they’re intellectual and so on and so forth.
All of that continues to lead into this idea that labeling someone with their Hogwarts House then makes it your choice and not their own. Sure, getting to figure out which fictional characters would go where is fun but there are problems in doing so. Mainly because we don’t know what these characters would say or think unless it is in the canon (like Leslie Knope loving the Harry Potter series).
Still, it’s a fun thing for fans to do but it is important to note that our opinions on Hogwarts Houses are far from perfect.
