The problem with expanding the Harry Potter series comes from not knowing
From Cursed Child to the Fantastic Beasts series, the world of Harry Potter continues to grow but with each new installment, there are problems and why is that?
When the Harry Potter series started to expand, it was exciting because we were finally going to start to see new content again. But with each new installment, many were left with this feeling of unease because the expansions tended to make mistakes that were easily picked out by audiences.
Look at Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. One of the main plot points centers around a Time Turner (which was destroyed in the original series) and they decided to just have more floating around. Then, in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, they added a Dumbledore that Alberforth never mentioned to Harry and they messed up when McGonagall was alive.
All these things are easy to spot for fans of the series and so it feels a bit mixed. Should we just let this stuff go because at least it’s more content or should we hold the creatives responsible? I, for one, don’t want to give my money to something just because it has Harry Potter on it (especially now that that money is still going to J.K. Rowling).
Maybe it is, sadly, time to leave creating new parts of this series behind. Its legacy is so complicated now and with how every new installment seems to forget crucial parts of the series, it just doesn’t feel worth it in a way.
Or maybe we can give the content to someone else entirely?
