Severus Snape was not a hero and he was never going to be a hero
The love many have for Severus Snape is baffling and one that doesn’t make that much sense but, at the end of the day, he was not a hero and will never be a hero.
Severus Snape was a man who let his love for Lily Evans rule his entire life. When she’d moved on and found happiness with James Potter, he dedicated his life to her still. Then, when she died and her son came to Hogwarts, he felt conflicted because he wanted to protect the bit of Lily he had left but Harry reminded him so much of James Potter that he hated him.
Now, when you break that down, Severus Snape was an adult man who hated an eleven year-old because he didn’t get to fall in love with said kid’s mother. It’s weird and it is a bit confusing how people see him as a hero because, in the end, he did the right thing.
Sure, he was brave in the end and stood up for what was right but that doesn’t dismiss everything wrong he did leading up to it. Harry Potter was right to always be wary of Snape and the fact that he then turned around and named his son after him? It’s strange and it is something that never really set right with me. Not when Remus Lupin was there for him in ways that Snape and Dumbledore never were so…it just doesn’t make sense that Snape would get a name over Remus Lupin.
But, at the end of the day, Snape did do the right thing and we can’t forget that.
