New Star Wars rumors are fueling hopes for more Emilia Clarke
By Andi Ortiz
There’s been a disturbance in the Force. New rumors have surfaced that Emilia Clarke’s Solo character could be returning in a new Darth Maul series.
As we wrap up month five of a global pandemic, news of movies being pushed back or delayed indefinitely seems to be the new normal for Hollywood. This week, it was officially announced that Disney has pushed back most of its slate, including its next set of planned Star Wars films.
But could it be a different story over at Disney+? New rumors seem to suggest so. This week, fans have found a new hope for the return of one infamous Sith lord, thanks to Star Wars Stuff on Twitter. The account tweeted that a “Maul-centered” live-action series may be in the works, with Emilia Clarke’s Solo: A Star Wars story expected to play a large role.
While neither Disney nor LucasFilm has confirmed that a Maul-centric series is in the works, the potential has Star Wars fans buzzing with excitement — and not necessarily for Maul himself. After all, thanks to Clone Wars, we know how his story turned out.
While it’d be fun to see more of the Sith in live-action form — whether he be played by Ray Park or Sam Witwer (or both) — all eyes seem to be on Emilia Clarke’s involvement in the project, as this is now the second time reports of her return to the galaxy far far away have surfaced.
As Qi’ra, Han Solo’s childhood friend, Clarke quickly became a fan favorite in Solo: A Star Wars Story. There’s a wildness to the femme fatale, knowing the kind of things she’s had to do to become one of Crimson Dawn’s highest-ranking members.
And yet, she has a soft spot for our favorite galactic scoundrel, her affection for Han saving him more than once.
Her story is all about survival, but even after betraying Dryden Voss in Solo, Qi’ra chooses to remain part of Crimson Dawn. As a result, we get the unexpected cameo of Maul, but all we know of what happened from then on was that Qi’ra continued to move up.
Would Qi’ra eventually have returned to help Han, using her knowledge of Crimson Dawn? Did she eventually become a big bad herself, in an effort to just continue surviving? It was always Qi’ra’s choices that defined her, and there’s absolutely no way to know what she’ll choose in a given moment.
All in all, her story is a mystery — and clearly one that fans wouldn’t mind seeing more of.
The Star Wars rumor mill is always active, but it’s hard not to hope for this one to come through. Would you want to see Emilia Clarke join a Maul-centric series? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below!
