Its got a refreshing, multi-generational approach to villains

As Courtney’s busily forming a new version of the Justice Society of America, the original bad guys known as the Injustice Society are still out there. They’re still powerful and extremely creepy – and responsible for the deaths of many people, including Starman, Hourman, and the rest of the original crop of heroes.

But Stargirl is very aware of how weird it is to have a group of teens battling a pack of supervillains with decades of experience, so it’s made sure to give these bad guys all some intriguingly human touchpoints that tie their worlds together. Because, at this point, the ISA has kids. Icicle’s son is Cameron is busy flirting with Courtney, blissfully unaware that the girl he wants to date is the mortal enemy of the dad he loves. Dragon King is the father of Blue Valley HBIC Cindy Burman, who’s a fledgling supervillain in her own right. Brainwave’s son Henry appears to be developing telepathic abilities of his own. And the couple known as Tigress and Sportsmaster are busy helicopter parenting their athlete daughter Artemis.

Whether the kids of the ISA members will eventually follow in their parents’ footsteps remains up in the air (except for Cindy, at this point), the addition of a second generation on both sides of the heroes and villain equation gives Stargirl an entirely different feel from every other teen superhero series that has come before, and is a reason it’s so exciting to watch.
