This show has an amazing heroine

A superhero show is only as good as the person wearing the costume and, luckily, Stargirl heroine Courtney Whitmore is a great choice. As the DC universe’s first teen superhero show, it’s a coming of age story as much as it is anything else, framed through Courtney’s arrival in Blue Valley and search for her father.

Her character is a perfect blend of heart, optimism, and belief in the goodness of others, with a standard bit of teenage rebellion thrown in on top. Besides learning to fight with the Cosmic Staff, she has to navigate all the challenges of being a teenager in a new school – making new friends, avoiding bullies and figuring out who you are (not to mention how much you want to let your parents into the truth of your life). Courtney truly wants to be a hero – in part to live up to the man she believes is her father, but also because she believes helping people is the right thing to do.

It’s easy to believe in her and her journey – and to see why others might want to follow her, too.
