It’s been a while since Game of Thrones fans had anything to look forward to, but HBO’s prequel series, House of the Dragon, has officially begun casting calls!

All has been quiet in the Game of Thrones fandom since the series ended its run last spring, and fans have had little to look forward to, with the exception of George R.R. Martin making his way through The Winds of Winter during lockdown. But those missing Westeros finally have a reason to rejoice: HBO’s House of the Dragon prequel series just took a major step forward.

According to Entertainment Weekly, sources confirmed that the new show has officially begun casting. Although there are no rumors about which actors and actresses could fill the lead roles, fans have begun speculating about the characters that may appear based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood.

House of the Dragon was greenlit at the end of last year, receiving a full-series order from HBO. The prequel will focus on the history of House Targaryen, showing fans what Daenerys’ ancestors were up to 300 years before Ned Stark became Robert Baratheon’s Hand of the King. Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik are helming the series, which will have 10 episodes to start with.

Given its focus on the Targaryens, the Game of Thrones spin-off is bound to match its predecessor when it comes to action — and with any luck, it’ll double the amount of dragons onscreen. The series is currently slated to arrive in 2022. And with casting underway, it seems House of the Dragon is ready to go full speed ahead from here.
