Comic-Con@Home: The New Mutants panel reveals chilling opening scene
The New Mutants was one of the many movies forced to delay its premiere because of the health crisis, but its Comic-Con@Home panel revealed the film’s opening scene.
The New Mutants is one of this year’s many films that’s been delayed because of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) health crisis, though it’s currently set to hit theaters on August 28. (Fingers crossed it doesn’t get pushed back … again.) The dark take on the X-Men franchise has been in the works for some time now, and fans are eager to finally see the Demon Bear Saga brought to life on the big screen.
And while they’ll need to wait a little longer to watch the film in its entirety, fans did get a look at the movie’s opening scene during Comic-Con@Home’s New Mutants panel. It’s a chilling one to say the least, and has many viewers even more excited to see this movie when it finally arrives.
Watch the chilling opening moments of The New Mutants during the movie’s virtual panel (skip to the 24:34 mark):
The opening scene shows Blu Hunt’s Mirage being attacked by something — a Demon Bear perhaps? — though it’s too dark and chaotic to tell exactly what’s going down in this moment. This seems to be prior to Mirage waking up in Dr. Cecilia Reyes’ secret facility, meaning this could very well be how she winds up captured. (Or it could be when her powers manifest.)
That’s just theorizing, but it appears we’ll soon have answers. Many fans went into today’s panel expecting The New Mutants to be delayed again, or at the very least, released straight to VOD or Disney+. It wouldn’t be that out of left field, since Disney delayed numerous other blockbusters prior to the panel, but it seems the studio intends to go forward with this one.
