Christopher Nolan’s best Batman villains, ranked by how iconic they are
6. Two-Face/Harvey Dent
You might be wondering why Harvey Dent AKA Two-Face is so low on the list. But to me, he’s not much of a villain. At least in Nolan’s trilogy, he does more good than bad. He fights for Gotham City as the district attorney and is a friend of Batman — until he isn’t. It’s not until he loses his girlfriend, Rachel Dawes, and half of his face is burned that he turns into a villain.
And even when he does go rogue, he only kills a gangster, a corrupt cop, and holds Commissioner Gordon’s family hostage. Okay, yes, those things are pretty reprehensible, but compared to everyone else on this list … well, Two-Face is certainly not the worst.
He might have done more but after Batman saved Gordon’s family, Dent fell to his death. Batman and Commissioner Gordon even go so far as to save his reputation by blaming his crimes on Batman and bringing about the Dent Act that wiped out organized crime in Gotham City.
Although, let’s be honest. Harvey Dent’s most memorable moment isn’t the Dent Act. It’s actually in the hospital right after his face has been burned and the Joker shows up and takes off his mask (as if he wasn’t recognizable before). I don’t know what Aaron Eckhart was going for in that scene, but that level of shock, surprise, and disorientation was hilarious. It’s become one of the most gif-able moments ever!
The nickname of Two-Face comes from the police force because Dent used to work in Internal Affairs. He also uses his father’s two-headed dollar coin to decide the fate of his victims.
While it would’ve extended an already long movie, it would have been nice to see more of him as Two-Face. Would he have stopped at Gordon’s family or would he have continued to become as bad as the Joker or Bane? Would he have stopped at exacting revenge for Rachel’s death or would have continued?
Luckily, at least for his legacy, Gotham never found out how much bad he could do if let loose on the city.
