Parks and Recreation

No list of NBC shows would ever be complete without mentioning one of the network’s most beloved comedies: Parks and Recreation. Running 2009 to 2015, the sitcom centered around the goings-on of a local government office in Pawnee, Indiana and followed Leslie Knope in her good-hearted but often bumbling attempts to better her hometown.

Written by and starring Amy Poehler, Parks and Recreation followed in the footsteps of other wildly successful sitcoms like The Office and forewent the laugh track, instead relying on clever dialogue, cringe-inducing awkwardness, and a stellar cast to deliver humor.  With an ensemble including Nick Offerman, Aubrey Plaza, Rob Lowe, Adam Scott, Aziz Ansari, Rashida Jones, and Starlord himself, Chris Pratt, Parks and Rec is an unmissable comedy.

Jurassic Park

One of the most iconic blockbusters of all time (not to mention the movie that kicked off a decades-long franchise that’s still churning out new entries), Jurassic Park is a summer blockbuster like no other. The iconic film stars Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum as three scientists who journey to the titular Jurassic Park to act as a sort of “test audience” before the theme park opens to the public, but who quickly discover that the dinosaurs may not be as safely locked away as the park promises.

Things quickly devolve into life-threatening chaos, and the trio fights for their lives while attempting to outrun velociraptors and save a pair of young children. Jurassic Park is legendary for a reason: While it’s filled to the brim with impressive visual effects, great suspense, and memorable dialogue, it also takes the time to explore ethical questions that elevate it beyond a simple action flick.
