Harry Potter vs. The Baby-Sitters Club: Childhood favorites and how they’ve grown
When we look in the news recently, we’re talking a lot about the legacy of Harry Potter and now, with the Baby-Sitters Club coming back, how do the two beloved series hold up?
We all love the Harry Potter series or we wouldn’t be here but now, with everything going on, it seems tainted in a way that might be the end of how we see the franchise. Looking at it now compared to something like The Baby-Sitters Club, which just had a new series drop on Netflix that preaches about acceptance and kindness, it is interesting to see how both of these beloved series have adapted to modern times.
Many Potter fans are upset about Rowling’s comments against the trans community and rightfully so. I myself am one of those fans angered by her words. So looking at The Baby-Sitters Club and how it not only is more modern in tone but also brings up trans identity in the show, we can clearly see that something like the BSC series is a wonderful way to reenvision something we’d come to know and love from growing up.
So, does this mean that something like this should happen for the Harry Potter series? Absolutely. The franchise is a wealth of resources and I honestly think it should get the “George Lucas” treatment. Meaning someone buys it completely away from Rowling and lets others tackle creating stories from the source material. Especially if those creatives were members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
Hopefully, we see something in the future like this for the Harry Potter series. It’d be worth It.
