Jennifer and Anissa, Black Lightning
Being a superhero runs in the Pierce family. Father Jefferson (Cress Williams) comes out of retirement to pick back up the mantle of Black Lightning to protect his hometown of Freeland. What he didn’t anticipate is that his powers would be hereditary. Jefferson’s oldest daughter, Anissa (Nafessa Williams), a med student, out lesbian, and part-time teacher, discovers her ability to manipulate her density which gives her super-strength and durability. Anissa eventually joins her father’s side to defend Freeland from villains and criminals.
His younger daughter, Jennifer (China Anne McClain), however, has a much harder time coming to terms with her family’s superhero legacy. While Anissa is the responsible one, Jennifer has a tendency to be the free-spirited wild child, so it took some special care to train her in her new abilities (which allowed her to generate pure electricity). However, she eventually joins her sister and father, becoming the appropriately named hero Lightning, while Anissa takes on the codename of Thunder. Fitting.
