Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD season 7 episode 6 review: Divide and conquer
Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD divides our team, but can they conquer their obstacles? And can they all make it back to the Zephyr before they time jump again?
Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD claims we’ll finally get some answers in this week’s episode. So do they deliver? Let’s jump right in.
Everyone’s attempting to adapt to the changes, both the Chronicoms and our SHIELD team. Mack and Elena head to the Lighthouse to attempt to save his parents. The Chronicoms have hijacked all of the Lighthouse’s computer systems and hit the Zephyr.
Rick Stoner has Coulson and May. Unfortunately, Stoner’s right-hand woman is a Chronicom. Coulson realizes they are adapting—they observe and adapt and take on personalities and emotions.
Coulson and May save Stoner before he gets copied into a Chronicom. Coulson heads to where the Chronicoms are sneaking into the base and comes face-to-face with Sibyl. He asks her all of the questions he’s dying to know, and she’s absolutely willing to answer all of them.
It’s actually very fun to watch Coulson and Sibyl interact. Sibyl thinks the difference between them all comes down to time, but Coulson counters with three things: Sacrifice, never giving up, and him. He’s never feared death—it’s his superpower!
Coulson plants their explosives and blows up the Chronicom ship with him still in it, ending the lockdown and helping May, Stoner, Mack, Elena, and Mack’s parents escape. Well… kind of Mack’s parents. They’re Chronicoms.
Another serious problem? The shield around the Zephyr is very broken and that will be a serious problem if they time jump because only parts of the ship will make the jump. And… Simmons doesn’t remember how to fix it. Enoch tries to fix her, Deke intercedes, and finally we have some weird answers about Simmons!
She and Fitz found a place where they can observe everything the Chronicoms do. Fitz stayed there, but to keep him safe, she designed a biological implant to block her memories (her name is Diana), but Diana is acting up. It’s making her forget things she should know and remember the things she shouldn’t.
Daisy and Sousa come to as Nathaniel Malick gives his big bad speech. Honestly, he’s giving solid X-Men villain vibes. He’s torturing Daisy, taking as many fluid samples and glands as he can. Sousa comforts her when she’s brought back (and she smuggled a nice chunk of glass with her!).
Nathaniel manages to transfer some of (or all of?!) Daisy’s powers to him, but his bones quake and he takes the roof down on top of himself because he can’t control it.
In the end, everyone makes it back to the Zephyr, aside from LMD Coulson, and we time jump once more.
Post-Credits Stinger
Mack sits outside the Zephyr with Deke coming to check on him… just as the Zephyr time jumps again. That’s not good!
Badass Moment of the Week
You know, I was going to go with Mack and Elena bonding with Mack’s parents, but instead, I’m going to go with Mack kicking the crap out of his Chronicom “parents.”
Best One-Liner
“Director Macklemore.” Classic.
May is not having Coulson dying and coming back and dying and coming back. It’s a bit of a meta-commentary, but I’m all for it. Their quibbling while being arrested was also a welcome return.
The bonding between Sousa and Daisy is something else. Am I… starting to enjoy the idea of Daisy and Sousa as a thing?! It seems as though he’s now staying with the team because of her. I’m very much for this, but let’s wait and see where it goes.
Next week’s Agents of SHIELD is in 1982 with Deke and Mack trying to figure out the next course of action. And it looks like it will be full of the 80s movies Mack loves.
