A new Harry Potter game is set to be released for PS5 and Xbox but with the backlash for J.K. Rowling’s comments, many are worried about its success with fans now.
There is a new Harry Potter game coming out for PS5 and Xbox and while exciting, there is now a fear that they will face backlash because of J.K. Rowling’s comments on the trans community. The problem isn’t that it will affect just this game either.
Rowling’s comments have, in a lot of ways, made it so many fans don’t want to have anything to do with this series. From covering up Harry Potter inspired tattoos to getting rid of their books, fans have taken her reaction as the last straw and given up.
So, the game is really just the beginning of the fear of what her stance could mean for the franchise. It isn’t about Rowling not being allowed to have an opinion but rather that her opinion is transphobic and harmful.
Fans have the right to be angry and they have the right to not want anything to do with this series anymore. It just means that now, everything in the woodwork for the series, is, unfortunately, tainted.
The next Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them film is pretty much the same way. People aren’t going to think that someone else directed it or helped bring it to life, they’ll see Rowling’s name and know she was a part of it. It’s bad for the series as a whole and it is going to be interesting to see how well this new Harry Potter game does.
