Hermione Granger and the art of shipping
Hermione Granger is the character that was seemingly in a relationship with anyone and everyone in the Harry Potter series. Why did we do that to her as a character?
From Harmony to Ron/Hermione and Draco and beyond, everyone had a relationship with Hermione Granger at some point. That’s not to say it was our fault, it’s just the way shipping worked with the Harry Potter series.
So, why was it Hermione who ended up being the one we clung to? It wasn’t like she was the only girl in the franchise. But then, to be fair, we also did it with…every girl in the series. Ginny had multiple ships and even Lily had two because that’s, sadly, just the way it is often with female characters.
All that being said, what was it about Hermione that just made us put her with multiple characters? Was it that she was kind to these men and even when she wasn’t kind (to Draco), she still tried to find the best in everyone?
To be honest, it might just have been that she was the main female character in a story of men. We’ve talked before about how this series has a large number of male characters and about half the number of female characters. So…it might just be the circumstance of that. Especially since a lot of the female characters were either historical figures or ghosts.
Whatever the reasoning, we sure did love to ship Hermione Granger with different characters. Whatever your ship was, it probably cause a lot of fighting online (at least it did for me) and those were, strangely, the fun days.
