Fine, Slytherins are not that bad. We just had to have a Hogwarts house to fight

When it comes to Hogwarts houses, we often look to Slytherins as the house we want to say are evil or we want to fight and it is time we unpack why that actually is.

Slytherins are often the house we instantly think is evil. That’s all because of the way they’re displayed in the Harry Potter series. All of Harry’s problems come from the house and we’re taught to look down upon them.

But it is important to note that it isn’t the case most of the time. Those who are in Slytherin are not inherently bad. They’re good people who we just happened to label as evil because that’s actually what Harry Potter did. He saw the other Slytherins outside of Snape, Voldemort, and Draco and said “all bad”.

It’s sad because so many students in Slytherin house were exciting but we had this idea of what was evil and what was not in our minds and so we couldn’t separate them. Luckily, we got to learn through years and years of fighting that Slytherins are not evil or bad just because they’re in Slytherin. They’re cunning, quick, and sly and if Gryffindors aren’t careful, they’ll realize that they’re not that different. We just have an ability to throw ourselves into danger and pretend like it is fine. (I say this as a Gryffindor).

So, next time you think that Slytherins are the bad guys, stop and think about why you think that and realize that it is easily because Harry Potter didn’t want to be a Slytherin.
