Disclosure

Disclosure is a documentary that centers trans voices. The film looks at the depiction of transgender people in the media in the past and currently to show how far Hollywood and society has come and the work that still needs to be done.

As highlighted by those featured, the more visible trans people become in the mainstream, the more positive the representation, the more confident the trans community becomes.

To be a fully actualized demographic, one whose voices are heard, understood, and appreciated, visibility is a requirement. However, for trans people, the same visibility that gives them the power that should be theirs by right of existence also comes with increased danger.

Disclosure grapples with that reality which stems from fear. It’s an ignorant and harmful projection based on inaccurate and dangerous depictions of trans people by the dominant cis culture. It is something that has to be unlearned, and for it to be unlearned, trans voices need to be heard and trans people need to be seen.

Disclosure will be available to stream June 19
