Tattoos help us remember things we know and love and for many Harry Potter fans, it was part of the journey. But now fans are trying to figure out what to do because of J.K. Rowling.

Many fans are looking at their tattoos of the Harry Potter series and wondering what to do now. Buzzfeed talked with trans people who, at one point, had a deep love for the series and while many are finding ways of covering them up, others are remembering why they got them in the first place.

The thing is: It’s not my place to tell anyone what to do or how to feel. I know that my own tattoo for the Harry Potter series is less about the series and more about my best friends so I don’t feel the need to cover it up but there are many who do want theirs gone now.

It’s a complicated thing because, again, Rowling has isolated so many of her fans who turned to the series for comfort. They wanted to find a place like Hogwarts and the beauty that seemed to be the school of Witchcraft and Wizardry and, instead, we were thrown her blog post that hurt so many.

Do you have a Harry Potter tattoo? Great, it’s your choice what to do with it and how to feel but it is a topic of conversation that many are going to have to navigate with everything that has happened so whether or not you want to get rid of your tattoo or cover it up is, ultimately, your decision and one that other Potter fans should support.
