When it comes to Twitter, J.K. Rowling has decided to use her large platform to spread her own negative views of the trans community and now many fans are lost in what to do with their love of Harry Potter.

J.K. Rowling took to Twitter this past weekend and used her platform to spread hurtful and hate-filled speech towards the trans community.

For many fans, it was the final nail in the proverbial coffin for the author but it has brought up a hard question: How can Harry Potter fans still enjoy the series that they loved growing up when the author continues to share disparaging remarks?

It’s very upsetting to know that someone who can write such an intricate and interesting world cannot seem to understand sexual identity, no matter how many people reply to her trying to get her to understand. It all started when Rowling seemingly posted out of nowhere against a headline that stated: “people who menstruate”. The author focused on this idea that only “women” menstruate which is not the case.

Many in the trans community who do not identify as women still menstruate so the headline in question was being inclusive of all and how they identify. Rowling, for whatever reason, has taken to this idea that it is somehow dismissive of those who identify as women? I don’t agree with her and I know that many fans of the Harry Potter series don’t either.

So what do we do, as fans? For me, it means separating the art from her and not giving more of my money to it. Whether that means waiting to watch any further Potter things after they’re free on streaming services or something else so be it but I’m not giving Rowling my money. I’ll donate that to the trans community.

dark. Next. Why is it that Dolores Umbridge is the absolute worst in the Harry Potter series
