It’s important to remember Emma Watson’s vocality for trans rights
With J.K. Rowling’s recent comments, many fans have turned to the rest of the Harry Potter cast for their support of trans rights against her and Emma Watson has spoken before.
J.K. Rowling’s recent transphobic comments have hit the Harry Potter fandom hard and many are looking to their favorite actors from the series for guidance and questioning Emma Watson’s silence.
The actress who brought to life Hermione Granger has been silent and focusing on sharing tweets and stories on Instagram in support of Black Lives Matter but where are her remarks for the trans community after Rowling’s comments?
The thing is, Watson hasn’t been quiet in the past. She’s openly shared her support of the trans community and has posted pictures of herself in a shirt that says “trans rights are human rights”.

That being said, the hope from the fandom is for Watson to say something now since Rowling has clearly made her stance on Twitter about how she feels.
It’s unfortunate but when someone as high profile as Rowling tweets remarks that many fans (including myself) have found to be transphobic, it then forces the hand of other celebrities associated with the franchise to speak out.
While Emma Watson has, in the past, shown her support for the trans community, it would be an appropriate time for her to share links of where to donate to help the trans community and, maybe, even focusing those links on the Black trans community like Katie Leung did.
Maybe, with time, Emma Watson will speak out again because of Rowling’s recent comments but, for now, it’s important to remember that she has supported the trans community in the past.
