Voldemort may be the villain of the Harry Potter series but there is an entirely different level of hatred for Dolores Umbridge and it’s interesting to unpack why that is.
Let’s all be honest: We hate Dolores Umbridge. And for many, we hate her more than we hate Voldemort for obvious reasons. Voldemort didn’t hide his evil ways, he let the world known about his monstrous tendencies and made it clear how deep that evil nature ran.
Dolores? She would wear pink, use her “unassuming” qualities to give off an air of innocence when she was the evilest of all. It says a lot about how the world views women like Dolores Umbridge and how she uses her white status to be unassuming to those around her.
Think about it. She is constantly coming off as “sweet” and like she doesn’t mean harm but then literally would torture her students in order to get answers out of them. Umbridge is the worst because she’s terrifying, pretends she isn’t, and is in positions of power multiple times to try and take on the world from the inside.
Sure, there is an evil human or being in every aspect of story-telling and there are multiple villains throughout the entire Harry Potter series but there is also something so sinister about Umbridge that just stays with us even though the series is over and done with.
Will anyone hit us as hard in fiction as Umbridge did? Who knows but she is someone whose evil ways forever stayed with fans of the Harry Potter series.
