Harry Potter and Ron Weasley: Examining their friendship and what it means

Friendship is at the core of the Harry Potter series but there is something extremely special about the friendship that came between Harry and Ron Weasley throughout it all.

Harry Potter didn’t really know what friendship meant until he met Ron Weasley. When he needed a place to sit on the Hogwarts Express, he found a car with Ron and their friendship was born but while they were both friends with Hermione Granger and had friends throughout school, there is something special about their friendship that is perfect to look at throughout the series.

Think about how their friendship is, in a lot of ways, like James Potter and Sirius Black. Sirius, who was the black sheep of his family and not someone who could really turn to them, had James and his family. While Harry Potter is definitely Sirius Black in this situation, Harry has the ability to turn to the Weasleys for help and guidance in a way that he never had with the Dursleys and, by extension, his own family.

Ron Weasley is more of a brother to Harry Potter. He’s his family, his friend who he knows will come back to him even when they fight and scream at each other, and they’re there for one another in ways that no one else is.

Harry Potter and Ron Weasley taught us how to be there for our friends on an almost unconditional level, supporting them and doing what’s right because it’s what we should do. And that’s a lesson that many fans of the series will take with them forever.
