This week on Netflix Hannah Gadsby is back with her new special, Douglas, and Space Force launches into the ridiculousness of America’s newest branch of the military.

I don’t know about you, but we here at Culturess love a good laugh. It’s a balm to what ails you, the spark of lightness that can get you through the day. So, it’s fitting that our Netflix picks this week — Hannah Gadsby’s new special Hannah Gadsby: Douglas and Greg Daniels and Steve Carell’s team-up on Space Force — take different paths to the same destination: laughter.

Gadsby dropped self-deprecation in her comedy to step fully into humorous truth. It’s a form of comedy that holds the audience responsible for what they find funny. Full of social commentary, self-awareness, and jokes that poke fun at humorous situations without relying on humiliation to land their punches, Gadsby continues redefining comedy on her own terms in Hannah Gadsby: Douglas.

Space Force is timely in that the newest branch of the U.S. military hasn’t even celebrated its first birthday before being parodied in a workplace comedy series. But who can blame Daniels and Carell? When the comedy fodder is there, it’s there. No use in letting it go to waste.
