J.K. Rowling is working on a new standalone fairytale called The Ickabog

We love J.K. Rowling’s world she created with Harry Potter but the author has another magical world to take us on a journey in: The Ickabog! And now we’re going to know all about it.

J.K. Rowling continues to help children cope with staying at home and this time, it is with a new fairytale! In a lengthy Twitter thread, the Harry Potter author explained the origin of her new story: The Ickabog.

Written around the same time as she was writing the Harry Potter series, the story became something of a family store that Rowling would tell and put the manuscript she wrote away in a box but now, while trapped in her home, has revisited the fairytale and decided to share it with children also stuck at home!

The entire thread is filled with Rowling’s story with The Ickabog and how she came to write it, but one thing was made clear: It is not a spin-off to Harry Potter.

What’s really exciting about the entire situation is that she’s giving the store to children for free. Right now, many want to explore new things and with such a limited option out in the world, things like this new story from Rowling can be exciting.

I don’t really know what The Ickabog is about because I want to be surprised and getting new content from Rowling is always fun so it’ll be interesting to see what the story is about! Maybe this means she will do a Harry Potter spin-off at some point later on though? Still waiting for the Marauders series I need in my life.
