While the Harry Potter series remains a staple in our fandom and something we love, the most it ages, the more complicated being a fan of the world J.K. Rowling created gets.

Being a fan of Harry Potter is complicated but not because of the actual series. It’s more of a looking back at the series and J.K. Rowling’s own views that make it complicated. Sure, we can separate the art from the creators but it gets to a certain point where we can’t keep pushing the art further and further away.

It’s complicated because we want to praise the series we’ve loved since we were kids but now, as we’ve grown up, we have started to see the less than great parts in the series. We want to point out the flaws and explore it but it all comes from a place of love as well.

We still care about the characters there and want to see them do the best but it is important to understand why the series is a bit more interesting to talk about because of the creatives behind it. I don’t think we’ll ever not care about Harry James Potter but I do think there is a more nuanced conversation surrounding the series than there was before.

Gone are the days where we just fight about the merits of a Gryffindor or a Slytherin and that’s not really a bad thing. At least we’re still talking about the Harry Potter series after all these years, right? Even if a lot of the time we end up talking about J.K Rowling.

Next. Does anyone else remember getting newsletters from Daniel Radcliffe as a kid?. dark
