1. Season 8, Episode 6: “The Bleakening”
A masterful two-part musical film, “The Bleakening” is Bob’s Burgers‘ Christmas masterpiece. The events of “The Bleakening” kick off when the always sentimental Linda awakens from a nightmare and decides to spread extra Christmas cheer, bringing decorations from home into the restaurant.
This soon descends into chaos when her Christmas tree (full of homemade ornaments) is stolen from the restaurant. Teddy jokingly suggests it might be an evil creature called “The Bleaken” (basically an evil version of Santa), inadvertently sending the kids on a wild goose chase to find the mythical, evil “Bleaken.”
The music in “The Bleakening” is some of Bob’s Burgers best, with animated sequences deserving of the big screen. We also see the return of longtime favorites such as Marshmallow as the Belchers hunt for the lost ornaments in the snow.
The final moments of the episode, revealing where the tree and its ornaments have ended up, are some of the series’ most joyful (and in some ways, most political). It’s also a fresh take on a Christmas episode, one that only Bob’s Burgers could provide.
