Does anyone else remember getting newsletters from Daniel Radcliffe as a kid?
Harry Potter fans might remember righting fan letters to the cast and crew from the movies but did anyone else get Daniel Radcliffe’s newsletters with his music taste in them?
Being a fan of the Harry Potter series sometimes meant that you’d write letters to the stars like Daniel Radcliffe. And when you did, you’d get fun gifts like Daniel’s music taste for whatever reason. Or, at least, that’s what I remember from them.
They were wonderfully detailed about his life and then, whenever he would feel like it, he would decide to let us know about his favorite songs. The song I remember the most from the letter is “Hope There’s Someone” from Antony and the Johnsons. And it’s a bit hilarious because I don’t know why a sixteen year-old was listening to this incredibly depressing song but also I, at fourteen, was also listening to it so I can’t really say that much.
It was a fun way of connecting to one of our favorite actors. We loved the Harry Potter series and if Daniel Radcliffe would sent fans newsletters, why not get them? It was before there was online social media to help share things with fans so it was a fun way of connecting to him.
Granted, I now wish I could find all the music he was listening to because there were some incredible gems in there and I want to see how much those newsletters helped inform my own music taste as I got older because I did, actually, listen to the music Daniel Radcliffe suggested.
