The New Mutants gets a new theatrical release date
After being delayed due to the COVID-19 health crisis, The New Mutants has now been given a new theatrical release date in August.
X-Men fans have been holding their breath, waiting to see what Disney had planned for The New Mutants after it was delayed multiple times, first because of reshoots and then because of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) health crisis. The film was among the studio’s spring releases that were pushed back after movie theaters closed nationwide. But as blockbusters like Mulan and Black Widow received new release dates, fans began to wonder whether The New Mutants would ever actually see the big screen.
And after promising that the film would, in fact, get a theatrical run, Disney has revealed the new release date for The New Mutants: August 28. It’s a bit sooner than expected, especially for a film that was taken off the schedule completely for a couple of months, but it does give moviegoers hope that they’ll still get to see some of the major titles slated to hit theaters this year.
Directed by Josh Boone and starring Blu Hunt, Maisie Williams, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Charlie Heaton, The New Mutants could decide which direction the X-Men franchise takes going forward. After Dark Phoenix‘s disappointing run, this could set a precedent for all the X-Men movies to follow — especially since it’s in the weird middle area between 20th Century Fox and Disney, having been in production during the Disney/Fox merger.
With any luck, this will be the last time The New Mutants sees a shift in release date. Of course, things are constantly changing under the circumstances, and nothing is certain — but we’ll be optimistic and hope for the best. After all, this movie has seen enough road bumps on its way to theaters.
