The final season of She-Ra and the Princesses of Power

It’s been two years since the She-Ra reboot premiered on Netflix and shook up the children’s television landscape and now the series is coming to a close with its final season. The moment is bittersweet for fans who have followed Adora from the moment she found the magic sword which transformed her into She-Ra, the Princess of Power, to when she broke the sword in season 4 to keep it from being used to destroy worlds.

Now Adora and the Princess Alliance must face Horde Prime in a battle to save Etheria one last time. Individuality and choice have always been a part of She-Ra and the Princesses of Power‘s narrative. It’s a theme that has seen She-Ra break from the mold of the Chosen One trope as showrunner Noelle Stevenson explained to Polygon:

"This story really is about free will, and choice versus destiny. How subverting that Chosen One destiny is about subverting what the expectations are for you, the destiny that seems inevitable, and how the Chosen One narrative is inherently flawed — it’s inherently flawed in the way the characters relate to it."

And it’s a theme that has resonated with the series’ audience as they’ve watched their beloved characters grapple with their choices and how they’ve been shaped by the world around them and the people who have power over them.

Choice and individuality are in direct opposition of Horde Prime’s agenda which aims to mold any and everything into his own image. World domination is not enough, he must stamp out any uniqueness and difference in order to flatten the universe into a sameness that strokes his ego and pleases his eye. Adora and the Princess Alliance cannot let that happen.

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power’s fifth and final season will be available to stream May 15.
